FABRIC. Why Do We Use HT Nylon with an Internal TPU Coating?

In our packrafts, we use high-tenacity (HT) nylon with a TPU coating applied only on the inside, instead of traditional double-sided PVC-coated fabric. This solution delivers measurable, real-world performance advantages in demanding terrain.

1️⃣ Structural Strength

HT nylon is a densely woven fiber with enhanced tensile and tear strength.

  • high resistance to cuts and point stress
  • better force distribution across the fiber structure
  • reduced risk of sudden material failure

The internal TPU coating ensures airtightness without stiffening the outer structural layer.

2️⃣ Behavior on Impact

How the material reacts when hitting rocks or roots matters.

  • HT nylon has a smooth surface — it tends to slide over obstacles.
  • PVC is stiffer and can “catch” on sharp edges, increasing tear risk.

3️⃣ Abrasion Resistance & Flexibility

TPU:

  • more flexible than PVC
  • handles repeated bending better
  • retains performance in low temperatures

PVC:

  • becomes rigid in cold
  • may crack after repeated bending
  • shows fatigue faster

4️⃣ Weight & Packability

  • lighter at equal strength
  • more compact when packed
  • less rigid in use

5️⃣ Durability & Repairs

  • supports reliable thermal welding
  • creates strong, flexible seams
  • does not become brittle over time like PVC
Summary

HT Nylon + Internal TPU provides superior real-world durability, better impact behavior, reduced snagging risk, greater flexibility, lower weight, and improved packability.

Technical Details and Innovations

Advantages of the innovative packraft with longitudinally welded seams:

  • Minimal draft allows movement in very shallow waters.
  • Wider stern increases buoyancy and further reduces draft.
  • Raised floor also contributes to less draft.
  • Comfortable backrest that does not require additional support elements.
  • Reinforcements in key areas increase durability and safety.

The Passion of Packrafting: Why is this sport so unique?

As an avid packrafter, I can say there is nothing quite like it. Packrafting is not just about floating down a river; it's a unique blend of hiking, paddling, biking, and exploration that opens up a world of possibilities.

What is a packraft? It's a lightweight, inflatable boat that can easily be packed into a backpack. This advanced technical design is what makes the sport so unique. It is the ultimate tool for self-supported adventures. Imagine hiking for miles into remote wilderness areas to reach pristine alpine lakes or a meandering river, which you can then paddle and explore. The packraft makes this possible. You are no longer confined to trails or roads – water becomes your new path.

The charm of packrafting also lies in its versatility. You can paddle calm rivers for relaxation or tackle exciting rapids. It's also perfect for multi-day trips where you can paddle for a few hours, pack up the boat, and head to a new campsite. This freedom of movement between land and water truly defines the experience.

For me, packrafting is about reconnecting with nature in a profound way. It’s about the silent moments on the water, feeling a new current beneath the boat, and the satisfaction of navigating the terrain on your own terms. It’s an incredibly rewarding sport that allows you to reach places few people get to see.
